Response of Hong Kong Baptist University



Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) welcomes the Panel on Education of the Legislative Council’s decision to adopt the motion opposing the rezoning of the former Lee Wai Lee site and reserving the site for "Government, Institution or Community" use. A University’s spokeperson said both the Kowloon City District Council and the Panel on Education of the Legislative Council have expressed opposition to the proposal of rezoning the site and support for retaining the land for “Government, Institution or Community” use. The rezoning proposal is undesirable and goes against the wishes of the community. HKBU hopes the Government will respect and take into consideration public opinion and withdraw its proposal.



HKBU believes that members of the Town Planning Board would consider seriously the views of the Legislative Council, the District Council as well as the general public. The University community will continue to express its opposition to the Town Planning Board on an individual basis.



HKBU reiterates that the rezoning of the site for a luxury residential project is an all-lose proposal as it fails to resolve the shortage of housing for people at the grass-roots level on the one hand and reduces the supply of land for education use on the other. The University is pleased to further discuss the issue with the Government.

香港浸會大學回應





浸會大學對立法會教育事務委員會通過議案「反對政府將前李惠利工業學院的教育用地改變用途，撥入賣地表作興建中密度豪宅，並要求政府保留前香港專業教育學院李惠利分校校舍用地作『政府、機構或社區』(GIC)用途，包括作原教育用途」的建議，表示歡迎。浸大發言人表示，九龍城區議會和立法會教育事務委員會都不贊成建議，認為應保留前李惠利校舍用地為「政府、機構或社區」用地，顯示建議並不可取，也不獲民意支持。浸大希望政府從善如流，尊重民意，盡快撤回建議。



浸大相信城規會的委員重視立法會和區議會，以及市民大眾的意見。浸大師生校友會繼續以一人一信方式向城規會表達意見。



浸大重申，把教育用地變為高級住宅用地，既不能解決社會最急切的基層住屋問題，又浪費珍貴的教育用地，是雙輸的方案。浸大十分樂意繼續與政府商討。
