Tung Wah looks to new university
補習 Charity organization Tung Wah Group of Hospitals intends to launch a private, degree- awarding tertiary institution at Tung Wah College in September. College president Thomas Wong Kwok- shing said the idea is to eventually turn the college into a private university, although he admitted this would be no easy task. "Several key factors are required to establish a private university, such as capital," Wong said. "But the most important is the teaching staff. We are competing against other tertiary institutions." So it will likely take five to 10 years to develop the college into a university, he said. ADVERTISEMENT At the outset, the college will offer only a four-year business administration bachelor degree program. Fees will be about HK$240,000 for the program, with students needing 120 credits in order to graduate. Arrangements will be made for students to work in companies or non-profit organizations for one year during their undergraduate studies. "It is important for students to gain more work experience to enhance their problem- solving abilities before graduation," Wong said. Later, he said, nursing programs at bachelor degree and higher diploma levels as well as other health-care-related programs will be offered in response to the severe shortage of nurses and health professionals. The college and its degree program were approved by the Education Bureau in April. 上門補習 | 補習介紹 |
